Sunlight T68: interesting bargain

Sunlight T68: interesting bargain

Single beds that can be transformed into a spacious double bed in an instant, a separate shower and toilet: that makes the Sunlight T68 an interesting camper in the entry-level segment. We are reviewing the 2019 version.

Camper brand Sunlight is part of the Erwin Hymer Group. The modern factory is located near Dresden, where panel vans, semi-integrated campers, and recently also integrated campers are built.

Exterior Sunlight T68

The Sunlight T68 is built on the Fiat Ducato with a so-called light chassis. Power is provided by a modern 2.3-liter Euro-6 diesel engine that meets the latest environmental requirements. The rear wall and roof are made of polyester, making these areas less susceptible to hail damage. The side walls are made of aluminum with an insulation layer over 3 cm thick. The T68 is equipped with a spacious garage for camping furniture, and in that garage there are lashing eyes to secure bicycles. A separate gas locker for the two gas bottles is built on the right side of the camper.

Contemporary look

Contemporary look

The Sunlight has a 'blonde' wood decor and, together with the light-colored wall covering and gray cabinet doors, this creates a contemporary look. The seating area offers space for four people; the fixed table stands on a stable leg and is rotatable and movable.

Optionally, a fifth guest can also join, on the side bench next to the entrance door. This spot is also suitable as a footrest for a comfortable, lazy seat. For example, to watch TV or read a book. Above the seating area, a double drop-down bed is hidden in the ceiling – you pull it down manually.

Indirect and direct lighting

For cozy hours, indirect lighting is installed under the overhead cabinets. The cabin is then darkened with a curtain attached to a rail – simple but effective. Between the seating area and the kitchen, a partition is placed with a large light bar that, unfortunately, is not dimmable.

Space in the kitchen

Plenty of space in the kitchen

The corner kitchen is equipped with a three-burner gas stove without piezo ignition – another detail that shows this is a camper from the lower price segment. In the three drawers and the large kitchen cabinet, you can easily store all your kitchen utensils, and the large Thetford fridge/freezer opposite the kitchen also offers plenty of space.

A TV can be placed in the cabinet above the freezer compartment – rotatable towards both the living area and the bedroom. Behind the kitchen, in the passage to the bedroom, you will find the separate shower and toilet on the left and right, with the toilet door closing off the entire back of the camper – thus providing a lot of privacy.

Sleeping area

The bedroom is equipped with two single beds that can be converted into a large sunbathing area with an intermediate piece. Under both foot ends there are wardrobes, and other clothes – and shoes – can be stored in the overhead cabinets, respectively the deep floor hatch. A disadvantage in this camper is the lack of a flat floor: there are steps to both the living and sleeping areas – a matter of getting used to.

Installations

Heating and hot water are provided by the Truma Combi-6, which is located on the left under the bed. The fresh water tank is under the dinette bench, and the waste water tank is mounted outside under the vehicle, just in front of the rear axle. Not insulated, so precautions must be taken for winter sports. Electrical wiring could have been installed a bit neater. The camper is equipped with four 230 Volt sockets, two USB connections, and one for 12 Volt. There is an extra 230V socket in the garage. Handy for charging e-bikes.

Conclusion camper test Sunlight T68

The Sunlight T68 is an interesting camper due to its popular single beds (which can quickly be converted into a large double bed) and its separate shower and toilet. All basic amenities are included. The vehicle is well-built – small details show how Sunlight keeps the price low, such as the cabin darkening and the lack of automatic ignition for the gas stove. A disadvantage is the tripping steps to the bedroom and living area, but almost all campers in this price segment have this.
