VanTourer Prime 630 L: Bus camper with storage space

Campers are hot: sales figures are skyrocketing and one of the biggest growers is the bus camper. For this test we look at the VanTourer Prima 630 L – a bus camper built in the Hungarian Knaus factory.

Compact, easy to drive on narrow roads and winding cities and yet everything on board. This makes the bus camper a popular holiday friend. The bus camper is ideal for holidays, weekend trips or a family party on the other side of the country: your bed is always with you. And picking up an Ikea cabinet is of course no problem with such a multifunctional cart.

Outsource construction

Why would you build a camper yourself if you can have it done by a renowned camper brand? This is how the German company EuroCaravaning must have thought when it developed its VanTourers. The bus campers roll off the production line in Nagyoroszi (Hungary), in the Knaus factories.

The VanTourer Prime 630 L

The VanTourer Prime 630 L is the largest model, with a length of 636 centimeters. The Prime is the most luxurious version, based on the Fiat Ducato. The bus camper is equipped with matte black stickers and that gives it a cool appearance. Under the hood is the well-known 2,3 liter diesel from Fiat, which meets the strictest environmental requirements. The car is equipped with various safety systems, including ABS, ESP, Hill Holder and double airbags. The electric step at the sliding door is nice, which automatically retracts itself as soon as you start the engine.

Interior

Living area, bed, kitchen, bathroom: everything in a few square meters. That is the power of the bus camper. With the cabin seats in the reverse position, a cozy living area is created. The dinette sofa is extendable, so you can have drinks indoors with four people. There is a luggage compartment for small items against the cabin ceiling. Handy, but it means you have to bend down a bit if you take a seat on the driver's seat and the co-driver's seat from the inside. In the evening you can darken the cabin with the built-in Remi pleated curtains.

The VanTourer is equipped with a compact kitchen with sink and two-burner gas stove. Additional work space is created by a fold-out work surface. The high-mounted refrigerator (90 liters) is nice, making it easily accessible. The wardrobe underneath is a bit more difficult to reach.

Window in bathroom

Opposite the kitchen we find the bathroom with toilet and shower option. The ceramic Dometic toilet is special (we usually see the plastic variant) and the window is nice, allowing you to ventilate the bathroom better than just with the well-known ventilation point on the roof.

At the back of the car there is a large double bed measuring 200 by 170 centimeters, the headboard of which can be folded up. This creates a nice reading spot, but with the headboard up you can also transport a bicycle inside.

Installations

VanTourer uses a Truma diesel combination boiler for heating and hot water. The compressor refrigerator also does not use gas, so you only need a small gas bottle: only for cooking. That saves a lot of storage space. Pipes and wiring are neatly concealed and the water tank is not placed under the bed as usual, but under the camper. This provides extra storage space under the bed. The water tank is also insulated and will therefore not freeze easily in winter.

Camper test conclusion

VanTourer may still be a somewhat unknown brand, but the bus campers are certainly not inferior to peers with better known brand names. The bus camper is well built: everything shows that it is built in a renowned factory. The furnishings and finishes are in excellent condition. The Vantourer has smart, space-saving solutions on board and well-considered choices have been made in the technical installations.
