Ready for winter storage: check out our tips

Winter is coming again! Time to store your camper or caravan. However, before you take your camper or caravan to winter storage, it is good to check and prepare a number of things. This way you avoid unnecessary costs when you want to go out again next spring.

Actually, covered storage is best for your camper or caravan. This way you prevent your beloved camping vehicle from being damaged by weather influences, such as frost, rain or snow. Have you found good winter storage? Then follow these tips to store your camper or caravan as well as possible.

Tidy and clean

You may not realize it, but you often still have quite a few things in your camper or caravan. Empty the cupboards and clean them thoroughly. Don't forget the refrigerator! It's handy if you leave the door ajar. It's nice if your camper or caravan smells fresh when you take it out of storage again in the spring. By the way, not only the inside is important: the outside also needs a thorough cleaning. This way the paint stays beautiful.

Your camper or caravan does not like moisture, as this can lead to mold or worse. Good ventilation is key here. So leave your skylight, windows and cupboard doors ajar. Also put the cushions of your sofa and bed upright.

Batteries

Both your camper and caravan can contain batteries (for your caravan, also think of the mover, which has a battery). It is important that you know what kind of battery you are dealing with. If it is a heavy lead-acid battery, it must be connected to a trickle charger. Is that not possible in winter storage? Then you can also take the charger home and connect it to the trickle charger there.

Don't forget to turn off all devices. And if you have devices with batteries, remove them.

Water and gas

Make sure the water system of your camper or caravan is completely empty, both the pipes and the boiler/geyser. Clean and dry the tank and then store it in a dry place. It is important to completely drain the boiler, geyser and pipes.

Regarding gas: check that the gas line is closed and disconnect the gas cylinder. Store the gas cylinders in a safe place at home or in a special area of the winter storage.

Insurance?

An important part of choosing winter storage is checking that the insurance is completely in order. On the part of the owner of the storage, but also on your part. That is why it is good to look for good insurance for your camper or caravan. If something happens during the winter months, you can claim back any costs.
